Thailand Guides - Yasothon![]() The small town of Yasothon or Yaso as it is known to locals, lies in the lower part of Thailand’s northeastern region and is well known for its spectacular annual rocket festival. OverviewYasothon is a little out on a limb but certainly worth the extra effort if you are in the region. The town is famous for its rocket festival, known as Bun Bung Fai which is held annually on the second weekend of May. The province is also highly regarded for the production of premium grade Jasmine rice. AttractionsThe important temple of Wat Maha That is an example of the Laos-style temple architecture which gained popularity during the Ayutthaya and early Rattanakosin periods. The pagoda houses relics of Phra Anon and was constructed in 1778. Another important site within the Wat Maha That compound is the old scripture hall. The entranceway displays fine examples of Issan carving and lacquer work while the walls show art in the central Thai style. The hall which was built during the Rama IV and Rama V periods also houses important Buddhist scriptures written on palm leaf. Chi River Beach is a natural stretch of beach revealed when the waters recede during the hot season. The beach, which is over two kilometres long, is popular spot for locals to relax and eat in the evenings. Page: 1 2
