Overview

Uthai Thani is an unspoiled and seldom visited province abundant in natural resources, extensive forest cover and wildlife. It encompasses the Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Reserve, an area declared a World Natural Heritage site in 1991. The reserve includes jungle, mountains, plains and a number of endangered animals. For visitors interested in soft adventure travel there are opportunities for rafting and hiking within the province.

Attractions

Wat Sangkat Rattanakhiri houses a large bronze Buddha made up from parts of several statues and believed to have been put in place during the reign of King Rama I. A holy relic is contained within the head.

Mae Nam Sakaekrang river flows through Utha Thani and still has scores of houseboats moored along its banks. Once a common sight throughout Thailand, this traditional way of life is becoming increasingly hard to find and Uthai Thani is the best place to see it today. The houses are constructed on large bamboo rafts and are predominantly the homes of fishermen and their families. River cruises are available in Uthai Thani enabling visitors to catch a glimpse of a vanishing way of life.

The Uthai Thani Technology, Science and Environment Centre is housed in a 100-year-old wooden building and holds exhibitions on local history, arts and culture. There is also a collection of old tools, farming equipment and local weaving products.
