Thailand Guides - Shopping

Thailand is heaven for the serious shopper. The big cities are packed with everything from huge, modern department stores to thousands of street stalls. Thai silks and cottons, modern and traditional jewelry, precious and semi-precious stones, silverware, ceramics, woodcarvings, clothing and antiques are just a few of the goods you’ll find at incredible prices.

Shopping in Bangkok

From world-class department store to a weekend market, Thailand can satisfy even the most demanding shopper. Weather you are a street shopper or a brand name loyalist, there’s plenty to take home with you.

For many reasons, Bangkok has been known as one of Asia’s most popular cities for shopping. Prices are relatively low, quality is generally high and the range of goods is amazing. Silks, gemstones, tailor-made clothes and traditional handicrafts are all highlights of Bangkok shopping. Street vendors usually offer lower prices for the same product but the quality will be compromised too. Like many countries in Asia, the first rule when shopping in anywhere in Thailand is “bargain”. Negotiate hard but stay polite when you shop at small shops or street vendor. It is not unusual to ask for 30% off the asking price. Remember that this is the way of life of Thai shoppers.
