Thailand Guides - Rafting

The good thing about rafting expedition in Thailand is its tropical climate that makes thermal wetsuits an excessive accessory. With lukewarm water, moderately wild rivers, lush jungles and easy access, there is no denying that Thailand is an ideal place for fun loving travellers, if not serious white water rafting enthusiasts, to have a blast in the splash and rapids of raging rivers.

There are many places in Thailand where you can take a white water rafting trip. While rivers in the eastern and central region have what it takes to give you a good rafting experience, it is the northern part of the country that takes a centre stage in rafting activities. This is simply because it more rivers suitable for rafting than anywhere else. Nan, Tak and Mae Hong Son Province are the most popular places for white water rafting with rivers like Pai, Mae Kok, Mae Teang and Wah River. There are different types of rafts used by tour operators. One is the local bamboo raft, which is suitable for a leisurely trip along a calm river. Another is an inflatable self-bailing raft. The second one is used in a river with strong currents and rapids. Other provinces with white-water rafting locations are Kanchanaburi, Chumphon, Chantaburi, Prachinburi, Nakhon Nayok and Surat Thani. These places may be lesser known to foreign tourists but popular among Thai travelers.
