Thailand Guides - Phetchaburi![]() Phetchaburi was once an important royal fort during the Ayutthaya period. Today this richly historic region provides visitors with a wealth of opportunities for sightseeing and relaxation. OverviewPhetchaburi province, also know locally as Phet’buri, lies sandwiched between the Gulf of Thailand and the eastern border of Myanmar. The diversity of landscape and its rich cultural heritage make Phetchaburi an ideal destination for weekend break or a convenient stopping-off point on route down south. Phetchaburi province is mountainous and tree-covered but also has splendid beaches, a wonderful historical park and is peppered with old and interesting temples. Situated only 160 kilometres from Bangkok, it is linked to the city by good roads and rail. AttractionsThere are many notable attractions in the province. Phra Nakhon Khiri Historical Park extends over a hilly area and is home to an old palace and a scattering of historic temples. Tham Khao Luang is a cave situated 5 kilometres north of the historical park and houses a Buddha image dedicated to King Rama III and King Rama IV. The temple of Wat Tham Klaep at the foot of Khao Luang Hill has a large hall and impressive carved doors. Phetchaburi Province is also home to one of Thailand’s largest national parks. Kaeng Krachan National Park covers 2,915 square kilometres, is rich in flora and fauna and features an 18 level waterfall called Namtok Tho Thip. The park has a spectacular mountain viewpoint and is an excellent location for bird and butterfly watching enthusiasts.
