Thailand Guides - Phetchabun![]() Phetchabun is a borderline between northern and northeastern Thailand. The province nestles in the valley of Pa Sak River and protected by mountain ranges that make the weather here pleasantly cool throughout the year. With the topography of rolling forested mountains, it is inevitably a haven for nature trips. OverviewPhetchabun is located about 340 kilometers north of Bangkok and accessed by car only. Besides natural attractions, it has a few places of historical interests. Local tourists visit Khao Kho to see the remains of the bases of young Thai dissidents who fled the capital during the political unrest in 1973. AttractionsNam Nao National Park is renowned for its deciduous forest dominated by tall pine trees. The forests here become a vital watershed for the surrounding districts. The average temperature at daytime is 25 degree Celsius. In December, the temperature can drop below 5 degrees in the morning. The park is one of the best places in Thailand for bird watching. Khao Kho is mountainous with the elevation at 1,174 miters above the sea level. Covered with deciduous forests, it was once a stronghold of communist insurgents who fought the Thai military during 1968-1982. Interesting places to visit include the remains of communist bases, war memorials, arms museum, a shrine housing holy Relics and the Si Dit waterfall. Khao Kho mountaintop also offers a breathtaking view of the entire province. Tat Mok Waterfall is 15 kilometers east of Petchabun town. Protected by shady trees, the 12-tier waterfall has a scenic setting of a stream of water flowing down mountain cracks. Page: 1 2
