Thailand Guides - Loei![]() Loei province challenges all preconceptions of Thailand’s northeast, a region often thought of as flat and barren. Loei is in fact one of the most beautiful, lush and untouched provinces in Thailand. OverviewLoei is a province of great beauty with rolling hills covered by lush forest cover and valley floors carpeted with rice fields. Culturally the rural province of Loei is an interesting blend of north and northeastern influences and has managed to retain much of its special traditions and character. Loei is also home to several beautiful nation parks and also hosts one of Thailand’s most unique and colourful annual festivals, Phi Ta Khon. AttractionsA high point of any visit to Loei is a hike up Phu Kradung Mountain. The 1,360 metre peak is set in the middle of Phu Kradung National Park and offers spectacular views as well as a chance to get a little closer to nature. Camping is also allowed on the plateau at the summit. The park is home to elephants, gibbons, barking deer and, during the cool season, a fantastic variety of birdlife. Loei is also home to three other beautiful national parks, Phu Luang, Phu Reua and Nam Nao. Phu Luang Wildlife Preserve is a forested plateau that benefits from a cool climate all year. Parts of the park are open to visitors and it makes a perfect trip for nature lovers. Phu Reua National Park is set on a plateau covering some 75,000 square kilometres. Phu Reua’s summit is 1,365 metre and there are several resorts offering accommodation on the way up the peak. Chateau de Loei Vineyards are also located in the area and are open to the public.
