Kayak the Chiaw Lan Lake

Paddle in a large fresh water reservoir, a part of Khao Sok National Park, located among sheer evergreen limestone outcrops. An adventurous journey into the natural habitat of exotic wildlife - a natural sanctuary that can be reached by boat only.

Day 1 - Phuket - Khao Sok National Park (Lunch, Dinner)

Pick up from the hotel in Phuket and transfer to Rachaprapa Reservoir, known locally as ‘Chiaw Lan Reservoir’, by car - 2 and a half hour ride. After arriving at the dam, we'll board a motorboat for a one-hour journey to the lodging. After checking in at the bungalow, get set up for the first paddling excursion to 'the Orchid Bay'- paddling technique is provided.

Day 2 - Rachaprapa Reservoir (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Early in the morning, we'll head out to do some birdwatching and wildlife sighting. Gibbons make their weird and wonderful calls early in the morning. It's a natural alarm clock.

After about a couple of hours on the water, we'll head back for breakfast and optional nap. In the afternoon after further paddling instructions, we'll get on the boat for another wildlife viewing trip. Watching monkeys frolicking in their natural habitat and leaping from tree to tree are entertaining to say the least.

Day 3 - Rachaprapa Reservoir (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

After a morning wildlife sighting and breakfast, we will hike to a unique cave. The trail to the cave is easy walking and takes about an hour to get to the cave entrance. About thirty minutes into the cave, we'll reach a small river, which runs through the cave. We'll wade and swim across this river.

In the afternoon, we'll do another nature paddle to a completely different part of the reservoir. The motorboat will leave the bungalows at 3:00 pm to find us. We'll board the boat and head back to the dam. Then, we'll drive back to Phuket.

Note: This is a sample itinerary. The activities mentioned above can be adjusted to fit your time and preference. The level of difficulty of this trip is easy and suitable for all ages with moderate physical fitness.

Rachaprapa Reservoir is located on Panom District, Surat Thani Province, about 700 kilometres south of Bangkok. You can start this trip from Surat Thani, pick-up point at either Surat Thani Airport or train station, or Phuket.
