Thailand Guides - Dining

Thailand is world famous for Thai cuisine. But you can get any kind of food you want in Thailand. Thailand has the best, most authentic Chinese food outside of China. The same goes for our Indian cuisine. In the major cities you can also find Italian, French, Japanese – even American fast food.

Food everywhere

It is almost impossible for someone to visit a foreign country and leaves without trying its local food, particularly in Thailand. Since the reputation of Thai cuisine has spread throughout the world, it is hard for any visitors to miss having a taste of authentic Thai dishes in their homeland. The statement is true if you are in Bangkok. There is food everywhere - food at a sidewalk stall, food at a chic restaurant, food at a 24 hour supermarket or food at the night market. No matter where you look and when you become hungry, you can always find Phad Thai (Thai fried noodle) and Tom Yam Gung (spicy prawn soup). It’s so tempting that it’s hard to miss.

Whether you are a Thai food fan or a curious first timer, there is always something to satisfy every taste bud. Indeed, Thai cuisine is not limited to spicy dishes or fried noodle. Geographically, each part of the country has its own recipe. While northern Thailand is known for its Khao Soi (egg noodle in curry) and Khan Tok (a set of dishes served in a basket), the northeastern part is the origin of Thailand’s all time favourite of Som Tam (papaya salad). Sea food and spicy food lovers will find joy in southern cuisine. But if you are looking for something for everyone, you may like the food from central plain. No matter how long you plan to stay in Thailand, a nice Thai dinner should be included in your itinerary. For the less adventurous, international dishes are available in every major tourist haven such as Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Pattaya, Phuket, Koh Samui etc. In international restaurants, you will receive a knife and fork for western meals, but for local dishes a fork and spoon are customary.
